At 4:04 a.m. on Wednesday, patrol officers responded to the first block of south Bellevue Avenue on a report of a man shot.

Police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg that was bleeding heavily.

Officers Brandon Bower and Matthew Talavera began to provide medical aid to the identified victim, 21, of Atlantic City.

Talavera applied a tourniquet to slow the bleeding down, police said. The victim was taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for treatment of a non-life threatening injury.

Detectives of the Violent Crimes Unit found that Ricky Hill II, also of Atlantic City, had arrived at the Shore Medical Center in Somers Point with a gunshot wound. They determined that Hill was responsible for shooting the victim. He was arrested at the medical center.

Hill was charged with aggravated assault and several weapons offenses, police said.

He was being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
